Son Shoots Father Over Wrong Chicken Wings
People complaining about their food being wrong or attempting to get it fixed is one thing, and launching into arguments about it is completely different. Countless news stories have surfaced within the past year including video or image proof of women - often labeled “Karens” - going off on service employees due to their conditions in food or service places being less than satisfactory (case in point, many of the videos published to YouTube, Twitter and social media networks covering “Karens” refer to people getting upset over having to wear a mask in the building that they are currently in).
There are even instances in which people are arrested or detained for attempting physical violence in these scenarios. However, there haven’t been many recorded instances of the same thing happening at home. This was exactly what happened in the case of a Utah man getting arrested for quite possibly one of the strangest reasons that have popped up recently in the record of bizarre crime stories. Two months ago, a man in Utah was arrested for attempting to murder his father when he came home - all because he got the wrong order of wings. Here’s the full story of how this happened.
The Wrong Wings
The man who attempted to murder his father over chicken wings was arrested about 11 miles north of Salt Lake City after fleeing the scene - all because his father brought home the wrong order of chicken wings. According to the arrest record, the man who attempted to shoot his father had drawn the firearm over a dispute that involved the wrong kind of chicken wings. It had started as a pretty standard night - his father had brought home some chicken wings for dinner, but the man started getting into an argument with his father when he realized the chicken wings weren’t the ones he normally preferred.
This escalated into a shouting match that finally peaked when the man went to retrieve his weapon and shoot at his father, who begged the man not to shoot him. He wisely ducked out of the way of the shot and continued to dodge the man’s shots until he finally tackled him, grabbed the gun, discharged the magazine, and fled the scene. The man also fled later, only to be arrested after getting 20 minutes away from where his house was.
The man, who was identified as 31-year-old Alika Suliafu, had a first-degree felony attempted murder charge filed against him by the Davis County Attorney's Office in Utah, as well as a charge for felony discharge of a firearm. The local police requested that Suliafu not be granted bail, as he's serving a plea in abeyance for an assault charge. Though there has not been any development on the case since its occurrence this past October, it stands to reason that he is likely still in prison either awaiting or in the trial. Although there are many arguments that escalate into strange circumstances like this one, it goes to show that there are plenty of things that can rile up people for seemingly no reason.
In some of the more bizarre instances in which people have been assaulted while working in fast food, there have been gators chucked through windows, two people performing a “fusion dance” to then assault the cashier, and so on. But there have been very few instances in which this type of argument occurs because of the wrong type of order being brought home. In a string of many different occurrences where people have been reporting strange or unheard of stories, this joins the ranks as one of the stranger stories to top headlines recently.
Is a Lack of Restraint the Issue?
It seems that since last year during the time of COVID-19’s initial quarantine and shutdowns, there has been a big increase in how often people have been able to regulate their temper or even react to simple inconveniences. Interviews conducted with therapists and studies have revealed that the sheer amount of stress that has been recorded since the pandemic is astronomical. People are worried about their health, their families, the public issues that have shaken the US, and so on. There are all kinds of strange circumstances that have been documented since the start of the pandemic, as is evident by the viral videos of “Karens” that have been circulating for a while now.
The level of stress has risen dramatically in the US thanks to a lot of these instances and worries, so is it any wonder that people would lose their temper over something as simple as the wrong order of wings? It shouldn’t be surprising, but it is. Worse yet, there seem to be no signs of stress slowing down, as many people are wondering what will happen in a world that is constantly becoming unpredictable thanks to the constantly changing standards of what is expected in how to adhere to COVID protocol. There’s no doubt that there will probably be more incidents that are quite similar to this one in the future, as people seem to be getting stressed over almost anything - not restricted to just flipping out over the wrong order of wings.
Although getting the wrong order of wings still seems like a strange thing to get stressed out over, thanks to the rising levels of stress the COVID pandemic has created, it’s an easy question to answer. The main thing that will be hard to determine in the future is if others will parallel this behavior in the future, getting aggressive enough to attempt to cause crime. If the videos of people flipping out over the cleanliness of a park or refusing to wear a mask are any indication, there will probably be more incidents similar to this one in the future. All that remains to figure out is if people will know how to reduce their levels of stress to prevent themselves from ending up at the mocking finger of the Internet - or on the front page of a newspaper with a mugshot.
