The Menendez Brothers Have Supporters
Menendez Brothers-What Happened
On the 20th day of August in the year 1989, two brothers were known as Lyle and Erik Menendez brutally killed their parents and they tried to make it look like it was a mob hit. The mother’s face was completely altered due to the close range and power of the weapon used against her and the back of the father’s head was completely blown off. Both parents died of their multiple wounds and afterward, the brothers reported it to the police, making it seem as though they didn’t do it.
Personal Information
Both boys came from a privileged upbringing where their father, Jose Menendez, gathered more and more of his wealth through the entertainment field. He was an immigrant from Cuba that came to America to find and build his success, which is something he did. During his younger years, he met Mary Louise Menendez and married her a little while after. After the brothers were born it became more and more known that their father wanted them to carry on his legacy. He became more driven and determined to make this happen by causing the brothers to excel in multiple sports, even if it was uncomfortable sometimes.
Defense Information
The brothers insisted that when they brutally killed their parents it was not because of any form of entitlement, which some people assumed, instead it was because of the abuse both boys experienced from Jose. They stated that their father not only physically abused them but also sexually abused them as well.
This was interesting because many people that knew Jose, knew of his controlling and driven side towards his sons. However, the problem with this extra bit of information was that after the murder both boys obtained the will of their parents. It has been stated many times that they spent a multitude of their inheritance money on various things that brought them joy and pleasure, from a Rolex watch to an expensive place to stay at. In the end, both brothers were sentenced to life in prison.
Many were split by this decision because some thought the boys were merely defending themselves from their father, while others thought they were lying to save themselves. Those that support the boys have been asking for the boys to be freed and released into society. This is interesting because those that are asking for the release are those that have seen the Hulu documentary. Many people born in generation Z have been advocating for the brothers. Hulu highlights all parts of the story in their documentary that focuses on the brothers and the entire family.
