Woman Receives Biblical Threats About Her Unborn Child
Sometimes people get jealous. It’s natural. But it’s not often that someone gets the target of their jealousy imprisoned through faking “rape fantasy” ads. But it happened.
The Story Police were Told
In 2016, 31-year-old Angela Maria Diaz was stalked and targeted with threats of physical and sexual violence. Aggressive emails from different accounts sent strange Biblical warnings and threats to her and her unborn child, despite Angela’s many requests for the correspondence to stop. The emails included links to disturbing pictures of dead bodies and fetuses.
The messages came from someone calling themselves “Jason Ray,” but Angela claimed that it was her husband’s ex-girlfriend, Michelle Hadley, who was the one stalking her. Michelle claimed to have nothing to do with the messages.
One of the emails: “I hope you are scared of death tomorrow. Be prepared. Don’t sleep, be watchful of the Daughters of God. We will steal your child and we will watch as it dies. (He) is using you for everything. Don’t you see this? He is obsessed with me, I am his treasure princess, you are nothing. Watch your back tomorrow.”
She went to report Michelle to the police. “Ms. Hadley has been emailing me for over one week, repeatedly threatening my life, my marriage, my safety, and slandering my husband,” Angela said in a statement to the police.
“Ms. Hadley has used over six different email addresses to contact me, despite a request to cease communication. I am now fearful of leaving my home, have had to delete my online presence, and am incredibly emotionally distressed. “I am fearful of being ‘raped,’ ‘attacked,’ ‘killed.’ I have had to completely uproot my life.”
At the time, Angela said she was pregnant and dealing with cervical cancer, and the stress was overwhelming. The police arrested Michelle in July, and Angela said the threatening emails stopped, so she had a moment of peace before Angela was soon released on $100,00o bail and the threats returned.
Craigslist ads were put up for a “rape fantasy,” which targeted Angela, but she said she had no idea about them. They showed pictures of Angela, details of her schedule and routine, and claimed that she wanted to be assaulted and raped even if she screamed or protested. Multiple men responded and were found by the police around Angela’s home, saying that they were there because of the ad.
One night, Angela was attacked in her home’s garage by one of the men that responded to the ads, trying to rape her. The man escaped that night, leaving behind visible bruises on Angela’s body.
She went back to the police and Michelle Hadley was charged with stalking and attempted rape and taken into custody again with a $1 million dollar bail, where she stayed for three months. The case against her was solid, but the charges were eventually dropped and she was released.
Why?
Michelle’s father, Michael, always supported her, saying she “could [not] care less” about her ex and his new wife. He was certain of her innocence and thought that she was being framed.
Even before Angela and her husband, Ian Diaz, were married, there was tension between Michelle and Ian after they broke up. They had rented a condo together and were struggling to figure out how to deal with the situation now that they were no longer living with each other. Their messages about the condo had become heated and accusatory.
Michael claims that Michelle’s ex was abusive and that she ended up becoming afraid of him. A little while after they settled the condo debate and Ian was soon remarried, Angela filed a restraining order against Michelle, showing proof of other threatening emails signed with Michelle’s name.
The situation continued to escalate until she was charged and arrested.
But in the end, it turns out Michelle’s father was right; she was being framed.
In October, officials found enough evidence that pinned the crimes against Angela on someone else; on Angela herself.
In order to frame Michelle, Angela had created different email addresses and used VPNs and third-party servers so her IP address couldn’t be found, and sent herself the threatening emails. She created the online rape ads and most likely lied about the man attacking her in her home, instead of bruising herself for better evidence against Michelle. Some evidence suggests that Angela’s husband was involved in the plot as well.
Additionally, police found proof revealing that Angela had lied about her pregnancy and cancer by faking doctor’s notes, and even uncovered that she had doctored a paycheck and posed as two other of her husband’s exes. She was charged and arrested, pleading guilty to a plethora of crimes, including forgery, perjury, and grand theft. Michelle was rightfully set free and Angela was sentenced to five years in prison for framing her.
The Aftermath
Although Michelle Hadley was released, she suffered lasting effects from the lies told about her. Other than nightmares and PTSD, she also had to deal with her undeserved criminal record damaging credit, job, and apartment prospects, even though she never had anything to do with what Angela accused her of.
Angela Maria Diaz doesn’t seem to show any remorse or guilt for what she did to Michelle and how she affected her life and even seems to take pleasure in it. If the investigation had eventually found Michelle guilty, she could’ve gone to prison for life.
After a while, Michelle decided she didn’t deserve to continue suffering. She did an extensive interview about what happened and sought legal action against her ex and the city. Ian Diaz was eventually charged and arrested after being found guilty for a part in what happened to Michelle, and possibly for having orchestrated a lot of it himself.
What would motivate Ian and Angela to go this far just because of jealousy? Ian already took all of the money from the sale of their condo, and the online ads could even have put him and Angela in actual physical danger.
Many say that the story seems almost unreal, as though it was taken directly out of a TV show. Shockingly, though, it actually did happen.
